World Travel Market Followup
World Travel Market (WTM) in London was a great success on a number of fronts. The PTBA partnered up with TBU to allow us to have a representative speak on a couple of the blogging panels there. Board member Laurel Robbins spoke on Finding the Right Travel Blogger for your Brand and Sales and Marketing Tools for Travel Bloggers. She did a great job and reported a number of people wanted to talk to her about the PTBA and what we have going on after those talks.
We also threw our first public event, a pre-WTM reception that will hopefully become an annual event. We had well over 100 people turn up on Sunday night at Doggett’s Pub on the Thames and a good time was had by all. Hostelbookers was kind enough to be our event sponsor, as they picked up the cost of renting the space and the food. And Four bgb bought the crowd 500 pounds worth of wine and beer. Huge thanks to both of them.At the reception, we held our first ever Blogger Storytelling Contest, which again we hope to make an annual event. Nine bloggers volunteered to tell a story to the assembled audience, each no longer than 4 minutes.
Before the event, Your Singapore UK agreed to donate a round-trip airline ticket from Europe to Singapore as our Grand Prize, G Adventures donated a 200 pound voucher as the runner-up prize, and Hostelbookers let us give away a 200 pound voucher to a randomly selected attending blogger as well.
To the amazement of everyone, Your Singapore UK loved the stories that were told so much, they gave away not one, but two round-trip tickets. So in the end, there were two Grand Prize winners, Peter Parkorr and Victoria Watts. The runner-up prize went to Lucy Campbell. Congratulations!
If you get a chance to tweet out your thanks to our sponsors, it would certainly help us organize more events like this in the future for our members. Their twitter handles are: @hostelbookers, @YourSingaporeUK, @Fourbgb, and @gAdventures. Thanks so much.
